Bronx/Queens Over-Height Vehicle Detection (OHVD) project

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Research conducted by the University Transportation Research Center at the City College of New York indicates that bridges in the NYC area experience over 200 strikes on an annual basis. Per New York Governor’s Office direction, the New York State Department of Transportation has taken a series of steps to investigate and reduce the number of bridge strikes caused by commercial vehicles on parkways and highways, including the Bronx/Queens Over-Height Vehicle Detection (OHVD) project. Fortis Consulting Services provided the design of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) network infrastructure for the project, performed system integration and provided further system support. The system includes 6 VMS’s, 11 CCTVs and sensors, and corresponding communication infrastructure.
